Beth and Jeff Thrutchley 50 in 52 Journey interview with Beth and Jeff Thrutchley. Listen as this Camp Mom and Dad share their experiences with a program designed to build self-esteem, love and the feeling of family for children in Atlanta's foster system. (Scroll down below Video to see a slideshow from summer camp) Camp Horizon is an organization formed to develop support for children who have been removed from their homes of origin and placed in state custody (Department of Family and Children's Services) for their own protection. Our programming is very focused and deliberate. The underpinning for our Summer Camp program (8-11 yr. olds) is identifying positive attributes and increasing self-esteem. For our adolescents, the Leadership Development Program works on character development and the importance of public service. Throughout all of our programming, for children ages 8-18, our "3 R's" explore the attitudes and behaviors we promote, those being Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. It is our desire that each child who participates in Camp Horizon, for a week or many years, will find the strength and hope for a new day, a better day on the horizon.
