Welcome to the Washington State Video page.
Watch these videos and be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Washington begins with an interview of Nytasha Sowers, Barbara Reid, Rick Mohler, and Kathleen Ellsbury of Friends of McDonald School. In the 1980's the school district closed the neighborhood school and let it go into disrepair. Now used as an interim school only, leaving it vacant much of the time, the district doesn't have the resources to keep up the grounds, especially the playground. So what do you do when the only open space within walking distance for your community is now a target for drugs and unsavory activity? Watch this video and see how these four people, along with many others in their community banded together and decided to do something about it. Listen to their inspiring story of making a real difference in the lives of those who live in their community. Watch this first of two part interviews and see that working together as a community really can move your neighborhood, your state, and this country forward.
In Part II of Friends Of McDonald School we take a look at the fruits of their labor of the work that was discussed in part I. See the school playground area and how much this group of citizens have managed to accomplish and also see what future plans they have for making this revitalized play area even more incredible.
Moving on to Kirkland we find Penny Sweet, President of Celebrate Krikland, Inc. After retirement, Penny noticed that while our neighborhoods are well designed geographically, they don't do much about having a cohesive community. After being involved in some town meetings, she decided to spearhead a 4th of July Parade where everyone gets involved. Watch this video and be inspired by the true sense of moving a community forward.
Next up, Renton Washington where we find Lynn Colwell and Corey Colwell-Lipson, co-authors of Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations, and Traditions for The Whole Family. Watch this video of a dynamic mother/daughter duo who took a simple idea of having a 'green' Halloween and ran with it. Not only did they take their idea to their community, but soon after it went nationwide. See how that then became a book about more than just Halloween, but all celebrations. Be inspired by these ordinary people who did and are still doing extraordinary things. They're moving their community, their state, and this country forward, one celebration at a time.
In Bellevue Washington, a MUST SEE VIDEO of the interview of Kimberly Estes, Director of Education & Outreach for P.E.A.C.E of Mind (Parent Education And Child Empowerment). Imagine that someone walked onto your child's elementary school grounds, tried to lure your child away, when that failed they exposed themselves and began masturbating. Surely this would be considered a sex crime? Watch this video and be amazed. Watch this video and find out what happens when the predator is a Lawyer and knows all about how to get away with such a crime. And then be inspired by two Mom's who said 'enough is enough'. This video is a must see for anyone who has children or who knows someone with children. Be inspired by what these Mom's in Washington are doing for children in their community, in their state, and across the country. FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT: www.pomwa.org
We wrap up Washington with an interview of Diane Formoso. Thirty Four years ago as a school bus driver, Diane noticed that some of her children didn't have proper clothing. With the help of her bus driver friends the early stages of Caring For Kids was born. Now doing much more than providing clothes, the program is still growing, meeting every need children who are less fortunate may have. Watch this video of an amazing woman who though she is retired still works to help the kids of her community. Be inspired by how a simple idea can turn into a business which movers your community, your state, and this country forward.
