First we meet the Powerhouse 7, a group of people who couldn't just sit by and let things happen to them. So they banded together and fought a bottling plant that was contaminating the well water they need to survive.
You'll also meet the Mt. Washington Valley Bike Path Committee bringing community together to develop a bike path to connect the values of healthy living with the beauty of the scenery around them.
Next is Rick DeMark of the Natural Resources Conservation Services Department of the USDA. Rick and his team are meeting the needs of the citizens of northern New Hampshire by researching and developing district heating systems for this community with very cold winters. With the closure of paper mills and many people out of work, combined with the high cost of heating oil, this sustainable resource for heating could save up to 40% of their annual heating costs. Watch this interview of a 30 year government worker who is making a very real difference in his communities.
