Ripple of kindness to begin in Denver

For Immediate Release December 19, 2010

Michael Jenet and his fiance Dafna Michaelson, best known for their 2009 50 in 52 Journey around America to find community problem solvers, have been selected by Yahoo! to receive a $100 grant to create a ripple of kindness that begins in Denver but spreads around the world. When faced with the kindness challenge Jenet and Michaelson gathered their three children, aged 16, 9, and 8, around the dinner table for a brainstorming session. Inspired by the "Free Hugs" video, a family You Tube favorite, Jenet had a spark of genius, "What if we go to DIA and welcome the holiday visitors with free luggage carts." Sunday, December 19th at 4:00 PM, the Jenet and Michaelson family will be at the United baggage carrousels loaded with quarters and signs that read: Welcome to Denver, Free Luggage Carts. Yahoo! hopes to see this ripple spread, for Michaelson she already has seen the impact in her family. The grant from Yahoo! came days before her prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. "With two lumps just waiting to turn into cancer I had to act. I could not afford to wait for the ominous day that my oncologist would declare me in active cancer." During her recovery this past month Michaelson was surrounded by friends who prepared meals, helped with the children and showered her family with kindness. "I'm excited to have the chance to pay that forward and for our kids who have felt the receipt of kindness to now feel the gift of giving kindness to a stranger."
